National Vegetarian Week, 16th-22nd May 2022

National Vegetarian Week aim to encourage as many people as possible to enjoy more plant based meals for the week. Benefits are seen to health, to the environment and cost savings for each family.

* Improve health!

Most fruits and vegetables are naturally low in calories but high in nutrients and healthy unsaturated fats. Research highlights that those who follow a plant based diet are less likely to suffer from a number of health related issues including coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, type II diabetes, high cholesterol, some diet-related cancers, diverticular disease, obesity, constipation and gallstones.

* Save cash!

The Future of Food study, published in the Lancet (2021), compared the cost of plant-based and meat-based diets in 150 countries; findings indicate food bills could be cut by a third when going meat free! Even for those following a ‘Flexitarian’ diet (eating meat and having some meat-free days each week) food bills are 14% cheaper.

* Save the planet!

Global wildlife population sizes have fallen by 60% in less than 50 years, and one in six species is at risk of extinction if we fail to act on climate change.

Livestock farming equates to almost 20% of all the greenhouse gas emissions that result from human-related activities…

A plant-based diet will help combat climate change, soil, air & water pollution, ocean dead zones, antibiotic resistance and many others problems caused by the industrial production of livestock.

How much of a difference can you really make?
