What is my Portion Size?

Portion sizes are directly related to our weight and health.

  • Taller or more active people will require larger portions.
  • Shorter or less active people will require smaller portions.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to portion size or food type; it is therefore important to be mindful of food groups (e.g. an apple may count as one portion of fruit, but a handful of butter would count as several portions of fat).

Using your own hand is a handy method for identifying your own portion size:

A child hand will indicate a smaller portion size in comparison to an adult.
