Summer Sports Programme, August 2017
Workshops were provided again this summer exploring healthy eating through presentations and activities. More than 60 children attended the sessions, answering questions like “What do we mean by healthy eating?”, “Why do we eat different foods?” and “What is the correct portion size?”.
The Eatwell Guide was presented to get children thinking about different food groups, and they raced to fill their plates considering the vitamins/ minerals/ purpose of eating different foods.
A ‘Healthy Heart’ activity also ensured the children understood how lifestyle can affect heart health; many children new the importance of exercise, some hadn’t realised the need to drink plenty of water and watch sugar intake, and none knew that brushing teeth twice a day can improve heart health!
