World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day

This global awareness day has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. It allows the opportunity to raise awareness of Down Syndrome and push for equality in rights.

The calendar date was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

The #LotsOfSocks campaign runs up to and includes this day; choose some socks that are going to get noticed – they can be mismatched or crazy and colourful-  and if anyone asks about them you would say “I’m wearing them to raise awareness of Down syndrome”.
