World Asthma Day, 7th May 2019
May 7th is World Asthma Day – an annual awareness event supported by Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and the World Asthma Foundation. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of asthma and how it affects sufferers.
Asthma is a chronic lung disease which causes breathing difficulties. Asthma is caused by swelling and inflammation of the bronchial tubes, sometimes in reaction to allergens, exercise, stress or changes in temperature and affects people in varying degrees. The condition is not usually curable but can be controlled by avoidance of triggers, prevention medication for chronic symptoms and relief medication for symptom flare-ups.
The Primary Care Centre has a dedicated asthma clinic; for more information, please ask at reception or call 20052441.
